This was a try-out of an extra-simple campaign played out over one evening using a slightly modified version of Neil Thomas's Machine Age rules.

Here we have our super-simple map.  The red areas are occupied by Manchukuo forces and include the railhead at Yangdong.  The green areas are held by Kuomintang forces and include the port of Zhentong. Loss of a side's supply base means defeat.

The Manchukuo lot win the initiative roll and move first, attacking the junction at Xiandong.  We rolled for the scenario in the One Hour Wargames book and got #14.

The courageous KMT defenders hold a line from the hill through the woods to the village.
The Manchukuo forces attack the village and head for the woods.
The Kuomintang in the village hold out . . .
. . . but the Manchukuo take the wood and isolate the village.
The KMT as a last resort throw a unit of militia in to contest control of the village.
Other KMT attempt unsuccessfully to clear the woods and get past to the village.
The militia resist bravely but the village falls to the Manchukuo forces.

Xiandong falls to Manchukuo.  In their turn the KMT counterattack to retake the area.  We roll scenario #5.

The KMT attackers seize a bridgehead in the enemy rear.
They manage to expand the bridgehead, edging out to left and right.
It seems to be going quite well. However all three units on the enemy side of the river have been steadily weakened by the continuous enemy fire and . . .
. . . all three collapse in one turn and the bridgehead is gone.

The Kuomintang countterattack on Xiandong fails.  In their turn the Manchukuo forces drive on from Xiandong to attack Zhentong.  It's scenario #3.

The KMT left is well positioned in a wood.
Their left is supported by cavalry.
The Manchukuo forces include tanks & artillery supplied by their Japanese masters.
The action on the Kuomintang left is hot. Even the tank can't make much of an impression and Manchukuo losses are heavy.
The KMT cavalry destroy the Manchukuo gun to win the day.

The Japanese puppets are driven back from Zhentong and it's the KMT's go.  They attack Xianhou and roll scenario 26.

It's a simple race against time to grind through layers of Manchukuo defences.
They resist strongly and it's very close.
On the last turn the last unit is destroyed and it's a KMT win.
Picture

With their supply base at Yangdong under threat the Manchukuo general decides to throw everything into another attack on Zhentong. We roll scenario #12.

The Kuomintang defenders are well-equipped with artillery and armour.
The Manchukuo forces, spearheaded by Japanese, storm across an unguarded ford.
The armoured car rushes to deal with the Japanese.
Realising that the hill in enemy hands would render the road impassable and the town untenable the KMT general belatedly sends troops to occupy it.
They are faced with a massed attack by the Manchukuo and Japanese troops . . .
. . . who carry it with the bayonet.

With Zhentong in Manchukuo hands the Nationalists are cut off from supply and disperse.  The province falls and is incorporated into the Greater East Asia Co-prosperity Sphere.
