The alarm having been raised by the gallant actions of sergeant Gorelson's squad, troops were sent to reinforce border outposts and protect outlying settlements. Roving bands of raiders attacked farms and attempted to ambush these reinforcements. This is one such engagement.

= 304, nine figures

Note that the barbarians do not have a leader. These are individuals who have attached themselves to this particularly infamous warrior in the hope of gaining fame and loot by doing so.
BELOW: The Cormyrians advanced using the 'Free Moves' rule as they were well away from the enemy until they neared the dangerous-looking pass between the bushes and the hill. A volunteer crossbowman then raced up to within a Long of some of the markers, forcing them to be revealed, and then sensibly ran back towards the main body once the ambush was revealed.

BELOW: Realising the ambush had been uncovered, some barbarians dashed out to deal with the scout.
BELOW: He survived, and was joined by his colleagues. They pushed back one barbarian, who was then knocked down by a shot from the other crossbowman who had taken up a position on the hill.
BELOW: The knocked-down barbarian and another was mobbed and killed by the Cormyrians. The hero knocked down a swordsman, was pushed back by a spearman, and was then knocked down by a shot from the crossbowman on the hill. Things were not looking good for the raiders.
BELOW: The melee swayed to and fro, and the hero got up and climbed the hill to take on that crossbow-sniper.
BELOW: The barbarian hero gruesomely killed the crossbowman, and the rest of the Cormyrians scattered in alarm.
BELOW: The barbarians ganged up on isolated Cormyrians.
BELOW: The Cormyrian resistance was not helped by some poor dice-rolls. Inevitably the outnumbered Cormyrians were picked off before their comrades could rally and come to help.
BELOW: The Cormyrians made a brave attempt to regroup and fight back but met with little success.
BELOW: The barbarian hero, sensibly but not very heroically aided by a comrade, gruesomely killed another Cormyrian. It also took the Cormyrians to under half strength and the two consecutive morale rolls sent the Cormyrians fleeing in rout.
