News from Regional Defence HQ at Dunhold reported an enemy unit landing near the ore mines in Khamsa Province. They were engaged by a patrol from the 33rd Infantry Regiment and comprehensively defeated. The enemy force, reckoned to be around half-platoon strength, attempted to infiltrate the ore mines but their shuttle was detected on radar and several patrols from the 33rd were sent to cover the possible landing areas.
A patrol led by Section Leader Torkel Torkelson encountered the invaders in the mineworks and the ensuing combat was fought to a conclusion in the ruins. Section Leader Torkelson's report stated that although the enemy, apparently led by Herol-Krysch the Indifferent, were unusually cohesive in their approach to the combat line, poor marksmanship resulted in their defeat at close range.
The enemy force attempted initially to flank the defenders' positions and maintained a long-range ineffectual fire but an attempt by a second group to close with them was quickly driven off with heavy losses. Section Leader Torkelson's report stated that his patrol followed the retreating enemy to their shuttle but were unable to prevent their escape. "If we'd only had our attack dachshund with us I'm sure we could have chased after and collared the lot," said the Section Leader in an informal interview afterwards.
The intelligence section at Regional HQ made no comment on the purpose of the enemy raid and there seems to be little at the old mining complex to have attracted their attention. In addition, examination of the bodies and equipment of the enemy dead revealed nothing out of the ordinary so the reason for the incursion largely remains a mystery.
