Above: The visit of general Gorbag to the front was being filmed by a propaganda unit under corporal Zagruda. This still from the so-called Zagruda film shows the moment before Gorbag was shot dead by the sniper. The general is haranguing the troops, and sergeant Nobgrab can be seen in centre of the front row.
A group of snipers including several from the Bywater Sharpshooters were seconded to the Military Developments facility at Baranduin Station to test new equipment. This group, consisting of Findo Gask, Musto Snuggs, Fronto Blackard, Titus Bramble, Ebenezer Titchmarsh and Hanno Goodflower, went on to be the highest-scoring snipers of the Dunhold War. The equipment they were to test turned out to be an advanced ghillie suit intended to make snipers more difficult to detect. As well as the standard physical camouflage it included built-in vision enhancers and a heat dispersal system to make the wearer invisible to infra-red light. It was the latter which proved problematic, as the halflings strongly resisted wearing the boots which completed the suit. However most of the snipers completed the familiarisation course and the two best were sent out to test the final prototypes in the field. These two elite snipers were Ebenezer Titchmarsh and Hanno Goodflower. Ebenezer Titchmarsh was sent far behind enemy lines to carry out a high-risk assassination of an enemy general officer. He successfully eliminated the target, and had to escape.
Titchmarsh starts the game in cover, represented by a numbered counter. There are also two other counters; his player knows which is real, and the others represent positions the shot might have been taken from. The goblins detailed to guard the now-dead general officer weren't really paying attention as usual. Whenever a counter attempts to move it must act exactly as if it was a figure - it must attempt to activate and move as usual. A counter is revealed as being Titchmarsh or as a dummy when:
(a) It fires.
(b) It crosses open ground with a goblin looking that way at any distance. Goblin figures are considered to be looking in the direction their noses point! A laser pointer might be handy here.
(c) A goblin comes within a Medium stick. If the sniper is in or adjacent to cover (as in the Stealth ability) he cannot be shot at. However goblins have a keen sense of smell and the figure is placed on the table or the counter removed as a dummy. Once the figure is revealed all other counters are also removed.
Extra dummy counters can be created. This can only happen once the figure has been spotted. If Titchmarsh survives being spotted and is within cover and not within a Medium of a goblin he can create diversions. He has several decoy noise-makers with him and can activate them. If he spends an action deploying a decoy replace the figure with a counter and place another counter within one Short. If more than one action is spent creating diversions one extra counter is placed within a Short. For example with three successes Titchmarsh can move one Short to be outside Medium of a goblin and place two counters within a Short of his end position. Any of the counters placed can be the figure, and the others are dummies. The Halfling player notes which is which.
Titchmarsh wins if he exits the table.
