A nighttime scrap in Normandy 44.
US:
2 x 9 us airborne vet(jumping in)
1st lt and 2 guys
Forward obs guy
MMG team
Mortar and spotter
Germans:
2 x Fallshirmjager (1 in reserve)
1 x Hanomag (in reserve)
1 x 1st lt and 2 guys
1 x MMG (set up on sandbags in road block)
1 sniper (set up first floor of farmhouse)
1 unit of ostruppen
Objective:
US to control the bend in the road, by holding it at end turn five.
This battle was done using nighttime rules (it became light at turn 4, all turns before no one could see)
Turn 1 Bit of moving...the airborne landed in the cornfields to the S.E. Artillery strike point decided...between wall and the mmg team in the road.
Turn 2 strike went off, just dealt out a few pins...hanomag came on from North east road.
Turn 3 German MMG fired (and missed) therefore gaining a muzzle flash, so US guys all took aim...lucky hit with mortar took it out! Fallshirmjager didn’t come on from reserve (rolled 11)
Turn 4 one unit airborne destroyed the Hanomag (Fallshirmjager didn’t come on again!)
Turn 5 other unit airborne morale victory against the unit of Fallshirmjager that came on, officer killed by sniper crossing road. Second unit of airborne crossed road with last move of game (after German officer team took out the BAR rifleman in unit).
Pretty good, nervy game using nighttime rules... Sneak sneak sneak then blam!!!
Quite lucky for US, scoring a hit with mortar then pulling first dice on turn 4 to assault hanomag did it for them. Had that not happened whole nuther story!
