In this series of games we follow a squad of Red Army soldiers from 1943.
The first games were done using Nordic Weasel's excellent Five Core rules and supplements -

For the latest we have switched to Warstory, also by Nordic Weasel.

These give a very open, rules-light game ideal for the sort of all-on-one-side narrative game we were after. If there was an element of competition or players weren't all on the same wavelength Warstory mightn't be the best, but they're not designed for that and for purposes of exercising our admiration for the Red Army they were perfect. Warstory reminded me of a cross between the very useful and ingenious Mythic Game Master Emulator - http://www.mythic.wordpr.com/page14/page9/page9.html - and the Inherent Military Probablility (IMP) games that used to be featured in the Nugget. It's more a tool-kit than a strict rules set and was perfect for our purposes. We grafted on some of the tables from Five... to give details of injuries, new recruits etc. and that worked fine.
