This is another excellent scenario devised by Mr G- P- and featuring his hobbits and goblins. The scenario details and forces involved are listed below.
Below we see how the sides set up. Farmer Maggot is in the foreground and a sheriff outpost is between the houses. There are some goblin scouts on the right.
Below:
The alarm is sounded and the hobbit villagers begin to gather at their muster points.

The goblins creep forward into the woods in the centre, and the hobbits take up defensive positions. Paladin Took urges them on by waving his hat.

While the defenders' attention is taken up by the goblins in the wood a scout scuttles up onto the roof of one of the houses. Outraged, Findo Gask and Musto Snuggs set off to bring him down.

Below:
The goblins rush down off the roof to be met by hobbit militia hastily moved from the defences in the centre and Farmer Maggot, who has finally joined in. In the meantime the crowd of goblins lurking in the wood in the middle have rushed out and overwhelmed the now thinned-out hobbit defenders, killing Paladin Took.

This was a bit of a disaster for the hobbits. I forgot that the goblins could easily the climb over the hobbit-holes and so outflank any defences I set up. Also, I underestimated how effective Farmer Maggot and his dogs would have been if used properly. Looking back, a mobile defence of sheriffs each teamed up with one or two villagers - who were pretty useless in combat but could provide outnumbering bonuses for the sherrifs - and led by Farmer Maggot would have worked much better. Still, a very good game with a clever scenario and lovely figures and terrain, all courtesy of Mr G- P-.
