RHQ is pleased to report that one of the most successful operations since the formation of Firebase Dekker earlier this year. Following two unsuccessful Marine/National Guard incursions into Barberton City centre in June & August this year from FB Hudson & FB Franklin resulting in over 70% & 60% losses respectively it was decided to adjust our present operations to the suburbs and industrial estates of the city. In addition to this certain other conditions were to be met before further operations were undertaken.
1) From 16th August Marine units only were to undertake sweeps with National Guard squads providing blocking units to the area.
2) Sweeping units were, when possible to be supported by heavy weapons and sniper teams.
Despite the late arrival of promised vehicles from Bde. HQ with mortars and a sniper team last Sunday, Sgt Walinski and 2nd squad 3rd Platoon agreed to undertake a test operation last Sunday sweeping the Deniston Industrial Estate clear in order to establish a future supply base there.
The operation was a complete success with over a dozen Infected exterminated, a civilian rescued and without a single casualty incurred by 2nd Squad. After the previous two operations it is felt that this result fully vindicates our step-by-step approach and the decision to let active operations be confined solely to Marine Corps personnel. However, our thanks to the two blocking squads from 28th National Guard holding the area to the north and west of the industrial estate while the operation was in progress.
Units from the 5th Logistic Company with support vehicles from 2nd Armored have occupied the area and this can be used for further incursions into the industrial belt in the south of Barberton City.

After action report 08-Nov.
Sgt. J.M. Walinski 24188758 to 1st Lt. L.R. Egerton
We approached Deniston Industrial Estate from the south moving and covering by fire team. When we reached the first buildings we continued this step by step approach and one fire team covered the rest of the buildings while the other opened up the doors. Within the fire teams we had two marines opening the doors while the other covered them ready to shoot if the Infected appeared.
We struck lucky in the first building (Atom Machining Services) where some young gangsta type had been hiding out for a few days. He said he hadn't seen any people but a few infected had been wandering around earlier. This turned out to be pretty accurate as three of them came into view from the north west and made their way towards us moving fast. Batista downed one right away, McLean got the other and then Batista killed a second one helped by Cpl Kozinsky and Garrow.

We managed to clear two more buildings when half a dozen more Infected appeared from the south west. Luckily they arrived in dribs and drabs and we were able to gun them down with only one of them getting within hand to hand range and Van Dung and Fachetti killed him. We were definitely getting the benefit of keeping one fire team as a permanent overwatch and only checking out one building at a time with the result that we were keeping a good field of fire despite all the vehicles around.
We encountered another three Infected from the North East as they must have heard the shooting and came round the end of the warehouse. Only one of them got close and Batista took him out for his fourth kill of the day.
There were no further incursions and we checked the rest of the buildings which turned out to be empty. We came back to base and dropped the young gangsta off with medical who said he was suffering from borderline malnutrition.
