February. Well what do you know? Now that something's gone wrong the same gun-hating lib-er-als who were campaigning for gun control a few weeks ago are flocking to the gun-shops to stock up. Now we gun-owners who stuck to our constitutional rights are sought after as trainers rather than looked down on as potential mass-murderers.
February. Something really is going on. At the gas station today a guy was filling up his station wagon and as he pumped the gas what did he have slung over his back? An assault rifle. Until a day or two ago he'd have been taken away to Gitmo. Today, nobody blinked an eye. As I filled up alongside him I spoke to him. He said that his cousin is a sheriff, and has been told to look the other way if people - the right sort of people, he said, with a nod towards the guy in the low-slung jeans filling up across from us - are carrying. He also said there's some sort of drug going around that sends users crazy mad, and that if use of it continues the national guard is going to be called in.
February. My neighbour told me that the centre of Barberton City is cordoned off. There's nothing on the news, but there wouldn't be, would there? The traffic news this morning was interesting - instead of reporting the usual jams into town there were jams heading out of town. It's not the holidays either.
February. There are more stories about the people who've gone wild in the park in Barberton. It's not a drug. It's a virus. Or it is a drug, put in the water along with the floride. Or it's spread by contact with blood, like in the movies.
February. I heard that the police station on Maine Street was stormed by a pack of the crazies, and the surviving cops had to be rescued by the army. I also heard that another gang of them took down a SWAT team in the middle of Barberton City. Hard to believe.
