This was a straight 12 v 12 game using DBA3. Sides were:
Vikings (III / 40b)
1 x 4Bd general 10 x 4Bd 1 x 3 Wb berserkers
Saxons (III / 24b) 1 x 4Bd general 2 x 4Bd 6 x Sp 2 x 7Hd 1 x Ps
The photographs for this game are even worse than usual. This is due to a combination of forgetting to bring the tripod, shaky hands, poor lighting, and not really knowing what I'm doing.

The Saxons cleverly rested their right flank on the wood, which was held by their skirmishers. These could not be shifted and although they were forced to flee a couple of times kept coming back in an authentically irritating way. The other flank was held by the hordes. They barely moved at all, resisting all Viking attacks until right at the end. They were far tougher than I expected them to be. I also forgot that losing them doesn't count towards losing the game so they were annoying even after they were dead. The Viking plan was simply to push through the middle, which didn't work well. I had overlooked two more things here. One was that with the new rules for flank support spears are as strong as blades. The other was that blades now follow up recoiling opponents, meaning that the Viking line quickly got to be very disjointed.
The game was a very enjoyable unsophisticated and realistic-feeling pushing match. Sometimes one side, sometimes the other, looked like they might get a breakthrough, and the other was able to stabilise the line and the shoving began again. Eventually the berserkers outflanked the hordes - being reduced to sneaking around a flank after several proper head-on charges just bounced off the hordes - and destroyed them, leaving the flank of the Saxon line exposed.
